Weather in Costa Rica in the month of October

The height of the rainy season  in Costa Rica is during the month of October usually more then in September. Here, the rains come in the afternoons and sometimes even more early into the night. Rainy Season in this country however, is

September and october are the rainiest months in Costa Rica

only called this because the rain comes more often than it does during dry season. Rains in Costa Rica in the mornings are seldom enough to drench you or spoil a beach outing.

Average October temperatures and climate in Costa Rica at this time of the year are at an agreeable 60-85 degrees Fahrenheit. Humidity is pegged at 85% while average rainfall rises to 15 inches from the usual 10.

In October, a popular province to be at is Puerto Limon. The Ticos celebrate Dia de la Raza or Columbus Day on October 12 with a flurry of dances, parades and concerts that lasts an entire week. Local cuisine is also featured during the festivities. A few other Fiestas you may want to engage in are Fiesta Pattronale San Francisco de Dos Rios and Fiesta Pattronale Escazu. Both of these events are marked with extensive street celebrations: dancing, street fairs and even sporting events. It is customary to engage in toro a la Tica (bullfight without bloodshed) during these events.

If however, you are only after a great day in the sunshine, make sure to head for the Caribbean coast instead of the Pacific. Because of a phenomenon that is called temporales del Pacifico, rain may fall continuously during this time of year for the country’s Pacific side. Some resort owners even opt to close until the start of the dry season, late November. Hotel and Lodgings in October are not hard to find, nor are they expensive. Due to a lesser number of travelers, a few hotels offer discounts up to 50%.
